Quality Education

MWCF is particularly focused on target of Goal 4- Quality Education of Sustainable Development. The goal aims to: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. However, OVCs and children from vulnerable families are often left out in spite of the free education policy directions by the government of Uganda. Indeed, availability of free education does not automatically guarantee or translate into access, especially by the OVCs and children from vulnerable families. As such, MWCF is focused on Targets 4.1 and 4.2 of Goal 4 of Sustainable Development.

Target 4.1: Universal primary and secondary education.

By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes. At implementation, this therefore means “provision of 12 years of free, publicly-funded, inclusive, equitable, quality primary and secondary education – of which at least nine years are compulsory, leading to relevant learning outcomes – should be ensured for all, without discrimination.” And, target 4.2: Early childhood development and universal pre-primary education

By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education. Equally, at implementation, this therefore means the “provision of at least one year of free and compulsory quality pre-primary education is encouraged, to be delivered by well-trained educators, as well as that of early childhood development and care”.

MWCF’s core activities

1. Work with partners to ensure that OVCs and children from vulnerable families access scholastic materials and other school requirements, including having meals at school, to be able to stay in school

2. Secure study scholarships and make them available to OVCs and children from poor and vulnerable families. This will help them to access quality education and build the capabilities of their families and communities

3. Engage parents or guardians of OVCs on the importance of supporting their children to attain quality education.
