ABOUT MARIE WRIGHT CHILDREN FOUNDATION (MWCF)

MWCF is a registered CHILD centered organization focused on transforming the lives, families and communities of Orphans and Vulnerable Children out of poverty in urban slum areas and remote rural areas of Uganda. As a Faith-Based Organization, we strive to serve the ‘bottom million’ children and families with the least privileges, to break the cycle of generational poverty by providing for their most desperate rights and daily needs of Safe water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Quality education and Health and Nutrition.

OUR WORK

We have worked in urban slums and remote rural areas of Uganda for over 2 years. We have so far reached out to about 170 families, covering 250 orphans and vulnerable children who are currently under our care and support. Driven by our vision, we are determined to change the lives of OVCs and their families through provision of safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene, quality education and health and nutrition. Our guiding principle is that hand outs are insufficient to deliver a lasting impact, but rather create a dependency syndrome in communities. We are therefore devoted to ‘lifting the hands’ of children and their families to restore hope and help them move forward beyond their daily challenges.

WHAT WE DO

We explicitly work to transform the lives of orphans and vulnerable children and their families through the provision of safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene, quality education and health and nutrition. This is particularly implemented in urban slums and remote rural villages that house most of the ‘bottom million’ Ugandans. To effectively and efficiently do this, community-based, culture-based, child-based, family-based and school-based approaches are employed by our multi-skilled competent team. .

WHY URBAN SLUMS AND REMOTE RURAL AREAS?

We believe that urban slums and remote rural villages house the least privileged families and children. Their development needs- like access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene, quality education, and health and nutrition are in dare needs, and cannot be overlooked and separated from the rest of the world. The world has increasingly become interconnected, especially with the introduction of the global development goals- Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals. Our programs in urban slums and remote rural villages of Uganda are, therefore implemented to join other global and local actors to address development issues related to WASH, Quality education, Health and Nutrition.
